Relearn how to see
not just the blooming, but the decaying
Relearn how to remember
to carry the wisdom from the ruins into the future

A disordered port. In it's past,
petroleum was accumulated by it's side.
The crude on The River was spilled,
Its legacy, believing itself master, abandoned it.
Today, over the stain, rises the school of health,
The revenge of the new youth that heals.

Nadie responde.
Hasta el silencio mismo parece encerrado.

At the mouth of the Hockanum,
the water pauses.
Metal and tree enclose it, denying its way.
The river murmurs its protest
through roots and rust.
No one answers.
Even silence itself feels contained.
1.2 Te Suplico
El letrero, oxidado: "Protejan el agua".
Nadie respondió.
No confundas quietud con pureza.
El veneno persiste, no muere.
Cuando despierte, beberemos de su sombra.
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
The sign, rusted: “Protect the water.”
No one replied.
Do not mistake stillness for purity.
The poison endures; it does not die.
When it awakens, we will drink from its shadow.

On the branches,
bottles hang from a fossil past.
From ancient creatures
we draw out their final strength,
to enclose water and drink it
without thinking of its lineage.
Then we throw it into the river.
Here, death sustains life,
and life returns death to the river.
The cycle repeats, twisted,
as though in satisfying our thirst
we were violating the origin that feeds us.

Where the river was fenced and silenced,
we build a passage.
To the rusted warning no one heard,
today we bring our presence.
On the branches where the plastic guilt hangs,
my innocent companion runs,
blind to the ruins, seeing only life.
He teaches us how to mend the wound:
Not by erasing the past,
but by walking upon the scar,
until the path is stronger than the stain.
